Ernst Herman Dietrich (Dieter) Jurk passed away peacefully in his 89th year at Muskoka Landing Long Term Care in Huntsville, Ontario April 24th, 2024.
Dieter was born February 18, 1935 in Dresden, Germany along with his 4 siblings, Uli, Helga, Monica and Christa. As a child Dieter lived on a farm in foster care with a big dream of one day immigrating to Canada which he did after he married Ingrid Elizabeth Scheu in 1959. In their 65 years of marriage, he fulfilled his dream and so much more all while raising an amazing family.
Dieter first moved from Germany to Milton, Ontario and worked as a machinist in a small machine shop and after a few years moved onto a large German company Demag Overhead Cranes where he served as Maintenance and Installations Manager until retirement. He was respected by all those that worked with him.
Dieter and Ingrid moved to a new home in Burlington, Ontario in 1965 where he and Ingrid raised their 3 children. Dieter was very much an outdoor person. In summers the family went camping and it is through them their kids learned to love the outdoors, a favorite place was Killbear Provincial Park. In 1973 they bought 100 acres north of Huntsville and built their cottage, where they eventually retired and expanded the cottage to a full-size home. Dieter and Ingrid were avid snowmobilers and belonged to the Highland Rover Club both as members and volunteering. Most any day Dieter could be found working in his workshop smoking a pipe working on either machinery or a hobby build. He loved ATVing and riding around in his tractor throughout the 100 acres.
Dieter was a loving husband to Ingrid for 65 years. He very much loved his children John (Janet), Connie (Gary) and Bob (Lori) and he was a wonderful Opa to Nicholas, Bryce, Victoria, Charlotte, Grace, Jason, Christine and a great grandpa to Augustas.
Dieter will be missed by all who loved, met and enjoyed his company.
