Evelyn Ryan Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Shelley Ryan on April 22, 2026. She had battled cancer for several months and was also in hospital with a broken leg that she suffered in February. She passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospital with her family by her side. Shelley was born in Willowdale, Ontario. She was predeceased by her mother and father Tom and Evelyn Ryan, her brother Pat in 2002 and her brother Mike in 2022. She leaves behind her daughter Diana Darrach (Mark), her sister Margie, her nieces Sion (Ian), Kim (Martin), Kelley (Nigel). Her nephews Keith (Tara), Kevin (Amanda), Greg and Rickey. She will be missed by all her great nieces, great-great nieces and nephews. Shelley's partner of 40 years,Garry Wreggitt predeceased her in December of 2023. Shelley attended school in Willowdale at St Cyrils Catholic School, then Novar Public School, Perry Central Public School in Emsdale and Huntsville High School. She started her working career at Sundrise Motel in Huntsville. She then moved onto Hidden Hitch/Algonquin Industries for several years as a machine operator and then started working for the Muskoka Board of Education in 1992. She worked as a custodian and lead hand at most of the schools in Muskoka and finished her career as lead hand at Pine Glen Public School with the Trillium Lakelands District School Board. She was well liked by teachers, principals and students. In her spare time, Shelley loved to garden. Her gardens at her home on Etwell Rd. were well known for their beauty. She was well known on the gardening circuit and her gardens used to be a place for brides to get thier wedding pictures done. She moved onto Hodges Lane in Huntsville and had a scaled down version of her gardens. Shelley also liked collecting rocks and gem stones with her daughter. They would go to the Gem Show in Bancroft every year together. She had a large collection of vintage brooches and liked to repair other peoples too. Shelley will be missed by all her friends and family. On Sunday May 10, 2026 (Mother's Day) Shelley will be laid to rest at the United Cemetery on Long Lake Road in Novar at 12:00 noon. Following the interment, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Novar Community Hall in Novar until 3 pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
