Friedrich Fred Frey

It is with great sadness and loving memory that we announce the passing of Friedrich (Fred) Frey at the age of 95.  Fred passed away peacefully on the morning of December 22 in his home.  He is predeceased by his wife, Ingeborg (Inge) and was a loving father to their children; Hannelore Bennetts (David), Diane Sawyer (David) and Steven Frey (Lynn).  He leaves behind his devoted partner, Betty Lou Humphrey and her children; Angela Humphrey (Glen), Jennifer Odegaard (Conrad) and Sean Humphrey (Kari).  He was a proud grandfather to Christopher Bennetts (Ebony), Koren Bennetts (Shawn), Cory Bennetts (Andrea), Joshua Frey, Zachary Sawyer, Amanda Sawyer (Joe), Haley Odegaard (Mark), Nolan Odegaard, Marit Odegaard, Mason Humphrey and Quinn Humphrey.  He was also great grandfather to Coen Bennetts, Fletcher Bennetts, Hunter Wilson, Jackson Wilson and Griffin Wilson.  

Fred was born and raised in Mannheim, Germany in 1928.  He moved to Canada with his wife Inge and daughter Hannelore in 1953.  The settled in Huntsville in 1964, and he worked as an electrician at Parrot's Heating and Plumbing and Deerhurst.  In 1968, Fred was one of the founding members of the Huntsville German Canadian Club, that brought many local Germans together for social and sporting events.  Fred loved to travel.  Whether it be spending his winters in Mexico to escape the cold, visiting family in Germany or taking a river cruise with Betty,  he was always wanting to be on an adventure.  Fred will be remembered as someone who was hard to beat in cards, hard to out-drink, and someone who could take an electric shock like no one else.  Many of Fred's family gathered in his home on December 22 to say their goodbyes.  Although there will be no formal service, please feel free to leave your condolences or memories on the website or the  " If you grew up in Huntsville" Facebook group
