Hans (John) Ivan Barchan passed away peacefully in his 75th year on June 22, 2024, with his wife of 36 years lovingly by his side.
John was strong willed, had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave and would be the first to offer help to anyone who needed it, even a tiny turtle trying to cross the road. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences: husband, father, son, brother, truck driver, fisherman, and contractor- he could fix or build anything.
John is survived by his wife Sylvia, two stepdaughters Kerri Arcari (Paul), Melissa Butt and his 7 loving grandchildren Matthew Lockhart, Dylan Lockhart, Erin Reid, Tyson Fisher, Francesca Arcari, Rocco Arcari, and Gabriella Arcari.
John is also survived by his brothers Michael (Beverly), Bill (Jo-Ann) and Stan. John was an amazing role model and uncle to Kerry (Chloe), Kelly (Courtney) and Caitlin (Chris). He is a great-uncle to sweet Violet.
John is preceded in death by his parents Ivan Barchan and Gerta Tapper.
He will be remembered for his love of all things mother nature and puttering around his backyard building a “shed village”. He truly loved each of his family, friends, and wonderful neighbors. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love. He will be missed dearly.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on September 22, 2024 at the Riverside Baptist Church, 11 Riverside Dr, Huntsville, Ontario from 4pm-6pm.
The family would like to extend our everlasting gratitude to John’s care team, including his family physician, specialists in Huntsville and Barrie and most of all the wonderful team at Hospice Huntsville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Huntsville.
