Hugh Alexander Jenkins - April 6, 1959 to August 23, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Hugh Jenkins announce his passing at the age of 66. Hugh passed peacefully at the Huntsville Hospice with his family by his side.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Wendy (née Morris), and his stepchildren: Sheila Grace Campbell (Brian), Amanda Schraa (Luke), Dezarae Aldridge, Angie Bechtel (Darren), and Merina Culp (Rob). Hugh was a proud grandfather to many step-grandchildren: Weston, Hudson, Arya, Madison, Dawson, Beau, Colby, Lauren, Mathew, Liam, Hannah, Morgan, Braden, Aliyah, and Zoey.
He will also be deeply missed by his siblings: Arlene Goyea (JimBob), Nancy Nunn (David), Ruth Brown (Jim), Kelly Jenkins (Janet), and Jimmy Jenkins (Cathy), as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Hugh is predeceased by his parents, Gwendolyn (née Seaton) and Logan Jenkins, his brothers Terry, Michael, and Warren, and his sister Nadine Chartrand.
He will also be greatly missed by his loyal dogs Bruno, Rosie, and Levi.
Born in Huntsville, Ontario, Hugh grew up in the small town of Novar, just north of Huntsville. From a young age, he was mechanically inclined—his siblings fondly recall him taking things apart just to see how they worked (and usually putting them back together before his father noticed… though not always quickly enough!). This curiosity led to a lifelong career in mechanics and machinery.
Hugh worked for many years at Weldwood (later Martin Lumber, and then Tembec), maintaining and repairing equipment. He also spent time at Northern Imports as a mechanic and tow truck driver before returning to Tembec, where he specialized in flooring equipment and later supported the lumber side of operations. Never one to stop learning, Hugh earned his Gas Fitter’s License and worked with his nephew at The Tin Banger. Though he excelled in the trade, his true passion remained working on large equipment, leading him to positions at Loft House in Burk’s Falls and eventually at Huntsville Forest Products.
Beyond work, Hugh lived life with energy and enthusiasm. He loved model airplanes, motorcycles, dune buggies, hunting, and fishing. Above all, his favorite place was Temagami, Ontario, a serene and remote area introduced to him by his brother Warren. Temagami quickly became his happy place—where he, Wendy, their dogs, family, and friends shared countless summers houseboating, fishing, and enjoying the peace of the wilderness. Even throughout his cancer treatments, Hugh made it a priority to spend as much time as possible in Temagami, where he found joy and tranquility.
Hugh’s family would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to the staff at Huntsville Hospital and Huntsville Hospice for the kindness that they showed to Hugh and his family while Hugh was in their care.
Memorial donations may be made in Hugh’s name to the Huntsville Hospital (designated to the Chemotherapy Department) or to the Huntsville Hospice.
As per Hugh’s wishes, cremation has taken place. An interment will be held on October 11th at Novar Cemetery (Long Lake Road), followed by a Celebration of Life at the Novar Community Centre.
