Keith Paulsen
November 3, 1964 – August 31, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith Paulsen, who lost his brave and courageous battle with cancer on August 31, 2025, far too soon at the age of 60.
Born in Prince George, BC, to Betty (Elizabeth) Paulsen and her late husband Arthur Paulsen, Keith was a man of quiet strength, fierce loyalty, and endless heart. He was the beloved husband of Tammy Bowler, a proud and loving father to Molly (Kris) and Jeb, and a caring stepfather to Julian and Dylan. He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers Garry (Diana) and Glenn, his step-siblings Mike (Katie), Sue (Dean) and Mark (Nicole), and his late stepfather, Fern Devost, all of whom shared a special place in his heart.
Keith dedicated the majority of his professional life (31 years) to HydroOne, where he was known for his strong work ethic, steady hand, and dedication to his crew. He later ended his career with Iconic Power Systems, continuing to serve with integrity and skill. Throughout his time in the field, Keith was a trusted storm chaser, responding to ice storms, hurricanes, and other extreme weather events across Canada and the United States, always with courage and commitment, bringing light and safety to communities when they needed it most. Through his work, Keith forged lifelong friendships with his fellow linemen, bonds built on mutual respect, shared challenges, and countless hours in all weather conditions, doing a job he loved.
A gifted athlete, Keith played hockey for many years with the Huntsville GoodTymers and OldTimers, where his sharp defensive skills and sense of camaraderie made him a beloved teammate. He was a longtime downhill skier, a member of the Muskoka Ski Club, and an avid scuba diver. These passions allowed Keith to explore the world in incredible ways; from ski trips to mountains across Canada and overseas to the majestic slopes of Switzerland, to diving beneath the surface in awe-inspiring waters around the globe. He was never one to turn down an adventure above or below the surface.
Keith found true joy in the outdoors. He spent countless cherished hours in Haliburton Forest, and across Ontario in his Airstream trailer, where he could often be found hiking, biking, and paddling, and found peace and solitude backcountry camping in Algonquin Park, with family and friends in one of his favorite places to unplug and reconnect with nature. He had a deep love for travel, especially to Costa Rica, where he explored waterfalls, beaches, volcanoes, and wildlife with wonder and joy, always eager to discover something new. He especially loved ending the day, with his favorite beverage in hand, watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean horizon, taking in the stillness and beauty of each moment.
He also had a passion for cooking, and was never happier than when he was preparing delicious meals for his family and friends, especially after mastering the art of wood-fired pizza, which became a much-loved staple at gatherings.
Keith was the kind of man who brought calm in chaos, laughter in quiet moments, and strength when it was most needed. He was a brave warrior, meeting life’s challenges with grace, resilience, and humility.
He will be remembered always as loving and loyal, a man of action and heart, who gave generously and lived fully. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his spirit lives on in the memories and lives of those he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 29th at the Hillside Farm 2295 hwy 60. This will be a drop-in gathering (3-7pm)—a true celebration of all the things Keith loved: live music, pizza, drinks, and time spent with family and friends. All are welcome to come as they are, share stories, and raise a glass to a life lived with heart and adventure.
Rest easy, Keith. Your journey continues in the forests, lakes, and skies you loved—and in every heart that carries your memory forward.
