Melanie de Steiger Obituary

Melanie de Steiger passed away at the age of 44 on October 1, 2018, after courageously living with brain cancer for 10 years.  She is survived by her loving husband John and their loving son Lucas of Spruce Grove, Alberta.  John and Melanie celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 31, 2018.  Melanie loved Lucas with all her being, and he held a special place in her heart.

Melanie was born in Chatham, Ontario,  on February 15, 1974.  She is missed and survived by her mother Catherine (Cate) Schenk (Steve Oughtred), brother Derek (Jeanette) Schenk, and sister Jennifer (Joh) Schatz.  She is also survived by mother-in-law Patrica Steiger, Wendy (Tim) Running, Rod (Kim)  de Steiger, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Melanie had a deep love for her entire extended family.  She attended every family event she could in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario.  She was known as a party planner and photographer and was always up to play a game or two.  She was a follower of Jesus.  Her devotion was reflected in every aspect of her life, including her social media posts updating family and friends throughout her cancer journey.  Her messages illustrated how her faith brought her peace and strength.  They became a source of encouragement for so many people.  Melanie loved to travel and was actively involved in the church.  She devoted time to leading Sunday school classes and participating with her family on mission trips to Antigua.

Everyone who met Melanie will remember and miss her living big with a contagious smile, quicklaugh, keen sense of humour, and unending generosity.

Melanie was cremated, and a Celebration Service was held at Spruce Grove Alliance Chrurch, Spring Grove, Alberta, on October 6, 2018.
