Nora Askin Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Nora Askin on August 3, 2023 at the Algonquin Grace Hospice.   She is survived by her sons Ken McEachern (Paula), Calvin McEachern (Janice), and daughter, Laurie Ann Vassallo (Mike). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Matthew Lamb (Robin), Jessica Lamb, Jorja Quinton, Charlee Quinton, Nicole Dundas (Tristan), Courtney McEachern (Joe), Brittinee McEachern ( David), Dylan McEachern (Meghan),  and  great grandchildren Sophia and Jaxon Lamb, Adrianna McEachern, and Nash Lamb.

Nora loved many things in life, including socializing, having fun, horses, music, especially old country.   She couldn't stop her feet from moving to a beat of a good song-she would be up dancing whether it was in the mall, baking or doing dishes in the kitchen, or out on the dance floor. Nora was a very beautifully distinguished well put together woman.  It was a rare occasion that you would catch Nora without her hair done, lipstick and jewelry on, as well as her 3 inch heels!

Her door and arms were always open and welcoming to everyone.  If you popped by for a quick visit or a weekend stay, you would be guaranteed to have a full belly and lots of laughter., Nora would serve up fresh baked goods with tea and coffee, or a 7-course meal in a flash.  Nora's happiness stemmed from making others happy.

She worked most of her life in the service industry, trying her hand at many things in her almost 86 years of life.  Nor's journey included a job at the Hamilton Hospital, homecare and housekeeping, running the dining room and kitchen at the Empire Hotel, Hostess at the Sportsman Restaurant, and opening her own restaurant, “Nora’s Country Kitchen”.

Nora ,was proud of her accomplishments, and even more proud of her children and families. She will be missed by many, but not forgotten.  Every time you hear a Johnny Cash or Charley Pride song, you can be certain that  she’s dancing her heart out with loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Algonquin Grace Hospice would be acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
