Norman “Norm” Waters, 78, of Emsdale, Ontario, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with leukemia. A devoted husband, father, and brother, Norm will be remembered for his tireless curiosity, unmatched mechanical skill, and the generosity with which he shared his knowledge.
Born on June 29, 1947, in Huntsville, Ontario, Norm was the son of Bob and Violet Waters. From a young age, he displayed a deep fascination with how things worked — a passion that guided both his career and his character. After earning an Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Norm became a licensed Motor Vehicle Mechanic and Millwright. Never content to stop learning, he went on to acquire numerous other technical skills. In 1996, he was recruited by a company in the States as an engineer to develop new products, later rising to roles as Production Manager, Plant Manager, and Facility Manager for several firms. Upon retiring in 2012, Norm returned home to Canada, having built a career marked by creativity, expertise, and leadership.
Norm also pursued his passion for aviation. In 1996, he began flying lessons and soon became a licensed pilot. By 1999, he owned his own aircraft, followed by a hangar two years later where Norm and Sue lived for many years. He and Sue cherished the close-knit aviation community they became part of, spending many joyful hours in the air and with friends who shared their love of flight.
Known for his ability to repair and create nearly anything, Norm was respected far and wide for his inventive mind and willingness to help others. Many who learned under his guidance carried forward his spirit of craftsmanship and generosity.
Norm is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Waters; his son, Neal (Yvonne) Waters; daughter, Jill Waters; sister, Mardi Butts; niece Keri (Matt) Knight, nephew Brad (Cheryl) Butts, and Grandchildren Brandon, Caitlynn and Kayla. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
