Peacefully on December 19, 2023, with his daughter Carolyn and her husband Paul by his side at the age of 88. He was the loving husband of the late Valerie Mortenson for 60 years. Born in Brentwood Nova Scotia, son of the late William and Ketty Mortenson (Hougaard). He was a wonderful father to Carolyn Goldring (Paul) and Stephanie Mortenson (Jeff) and an incredible Papa to Samantha and Allyson Goldring. He will be missed by his sister Betty Cooper (Gerald), brother Austin Mortenson (Elsie), the late David Mortenson (Betty) and he will be missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Peter always said he had a very good life. After high school, he joined the Air Force and served for 5 years and then was employed with IBM for 32 years. Retirement, however, didn't slow him down. He moved back home to Nova Scotia and built his dream home in Malagash with his wife Val. He loved his woodworking shop and would putter around in there for hours making beautiful things. During the last few years, he lived i Huntsville ontario close to his daughter Carolyn. He enjoyed Muskoka Traditions Retirement Home and he was known as "Mr. Phenomenal" as whenever anyone asked him how he was he said "PHENOMENAL!
Thank you to his Doctor Allison Small for the wonderful care she has given Peter during his time in Huntsville and especially during his last week. Finally, thank you to the staff at Muskoka Traditions for taking such good care of my dad.
There will be a celebration of life both in Ontario and in Nova Scotia at a later date and will notify family and friends once details have been confirmed. Cremation has taken place and Peter's final resting place will be in Malagash Nova Scotia.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Huntsville Hospital Foundation or Malagash United Church would be greatly appreciated.
