Reta Elsie Thompson (Nee Barker) of Huntsville passed away in her 90th year after a short illness. She was born to Elizabeth and Thomas Barker in Toronto on October 2, 1935. Reta is predeceased by her loving husband, Henry Thompson, and her granddaughters, Ashley Dean and Candice Thompson.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Calla Thompson (Anne) and Heather Thompson (Jep), and her grandchildren, Ciara Thompson (Andy) and Christopher Thompson (Katie). She is survived by her sisters, Patricia Brown and Dorothy Holland, and her wonderful nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Ernest Barker.
Reta understood the value of hard work, from her night shift job at a canning factory in Toronto at fourteen years old to managing her daycare as a young mother to a successful career in the City of York's payroll department. Her entrepreneurial spirit lives on in the successful business ventures of Heather, Ciara, and Christopher.
Those who knew her will remember her for her fierce love of her family and friends, her "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" attitude, and her practical approach to life.
A Celebration of life will be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Algonquin Grace Hospice Huntsville.
